Why is the Amazon Kindle on the Top of So Many Wish Lists?

What You Need to Know if an Amazon Kindle is on Your Gift List

So someone you know wants an Amazon Kindle? You're not alone. This revolutionary reading device has made its way to many a wish list. The question is, are you prepared to buy one, and why does your recipient want it? Here's what you need to know...

Amazon Kindle 101

Imagine being able to own a huge personal library without dedicating too much space to it. That's what the Amazon Kindle does. The Amazon Kindle is a reading device that allows you to read your favorite books (including New York Times Best Sellers) on a screen that looks amazingly like paper, but that's not all it does.

The Kindle, unlike other electronic reading devices, is wireless. It connects to Amazon.com and allows you to purchase books in a matter of seconds. From old classics to New York Times best sellers, the options are endless and prices are very reasonable. Of course, the instant gratification factor can't be dismissed either.

The Bad News

The Amazon Kindle is sounding pretty perfect about now, right? Here's the bad news - the little gadget will set you back about $350, and that doesn't count the price of the books you buy. On the bright side, however, that price does include wireless access to Amazon. There's no monthly subscription for Kindle service.

Unfortunately, there's no sign of a price drop in the near future, although rumors of a second generation Amazon Kindle are circulating. Our advice, keep an eye on Kindle availability and if supply seems short get one while you can. Otherwise, see if a price drop occurs or if coupon codes become available. You might end up saving a pretty penny.
